Are You Fed Up Not Making Money With Your Online Business?

Online Business Or Online Hobby

When I lost my job as a bar manager in Dec 2010 I started searching around on the internet looking for a way to work from home.

I did notice that there were quite a few people who were making money online and I knew this was something I could do.

Yes! I was ready to start an online business.

Are You Building Your Online Business The Right Way?

So I “thought” I made a decision to start my online business.

Does this sound familiar?

Do you find yourself visiting all these different websites to see what others are up to and opting in for all the free offers?

Do you find yourself purchasing things for your online business and never even taking a look at them?

How about checking your e-mail constantly or spending hours on Facebook?

Yep, I know all to well about all of this!

Are You Treating Your Online Business Like A Hobby?

Do you want to have an online business, or do you just want to do it as a hobby?

Are You Building Your Online Business The Right Way?

What I found out was that there was huge difference between the two.

The biggest thing is that treating your online business like hobby you will Not make you whole lot of money, more than likely None at all.

If you are constantly checking your e-mail every five minutes and wasting your day reading the status updates on FaceBook, you are just flat out treating your online business like a hobby.

You need to join in the conversation and not just sit on sidelines waiting for something to happen with your online business.

But this is a topic for another post.

Choose To Build An Online Business

If you are thinking about starting an online business or you have one and are not making the kind of money you want then you have a few decisions to make.

You need to make better choices on how you are going to go about your day to actually start making money with your online business.

Are You Fed Up Trying To Build Your Online Business ?

The first thing you need to do is to set a few goals so let’s do this together, go ahead and grab a pen a paper right now and jot down 3 things that you would like to happen in 2015.

Next you are going to write down 3 things that you are going to do to today to help make it possible for you to reach those goals.

Are You Fed Up Trying To Build An Online Business ?

Now you know what you want and know what you are going to do to get it Right?

There are quite a few people that I have talked to lately who don’t know what they want and of course this is OK.

You just need to sit down and really take the time to think about this.

It is so important to set those goals for yourself as well as how you are going to achieve them with your online business.

Building your online business and focusing on attaining your goals is hard work.

But the pros far outweigh the cons.

You’ll be building something you can be proud of, something you can stand behind and something that can realistically make your goals become your reality.

It sounds great (and it is) but you have to set a schedule and commit to following through.

Not for just a day, a week, a month, you want to make this your lifetime journey.

So get those goals and then write out your daily game plan of how you are going to attain them.

I cannot believe how actually taking the time each morning and writing down 3 goals has helped to move my online business forward. It is amazing when you have focus what needs to get done.

If you are looking to start an online business or have been struggling for a while and do not have the kind of results you have been looking for well I do have some exciting things going on and would love to help you build an online business of your dreams.

    Hi Chery,

This is some of the best advice I’ve seen in a long time!!! It’s amazing how little actually “do” anything but want the results.

That’s why it’s so critical people get their foundations set in their business:

    1. What business are you “really” in? Looking at it from the readers/prospect/customers point of view.
    2. What tangible values do your customers recieve when they buy from you?
    3. What problems do you “specifically” solve for each tangible value?
    4. How are your products or services “a” part of the solution?

It’ looks easy, but the truth is it’s not. Yet, everyone should do this as it would make your online business so much easier as you create clarity and focus.

I learned a long time ago a solid formula that made so much sense to me:

    Clarity + Focus = Execution

That’s what the overwhelming majority of bloggers and businesses of all types are missing.

Great post Chery. Thanks for getting me thinking!!!!

    Hey Chery,

I think most of us that have online businesses can attest to this. We start something but we first treat it as a hobby. We go no where and we either quit because we lose faith or we keep doing the same routine over and over again staying stagnant in our businesses.

This is why goal setting is a must. Not just goal setting but executing those goals. I even set mini goals whenever I get stuck somewhere on my daily tasks. Like with you, it really helps a lot. It may takes more time, but it’s worth the effort. Especially for laying out a strong foundation, finishing all the hard work so all you have to do is tweak it when the industry changes!

Thanks for sharing Chery and the great reminder of how important goal setting is! Have a great rest of the week!

    • says

Hello Sherman, Yeppers I do know this is where I started, I actually stayed stuck for a very long time, treating my business like a hobby.. WHY? Because I didn’t take the time each morning and set my daily goals! Once I started doing this I knew exactly what had to be done and I did it Period!

I did mention FOCUS above OH YEH It is so Good to Be FOCUSED HUH?

Thanks for this Awesome Comment My Friend! I do appreciate it.. Chery :))

  4. says

Well said Chery! You always manage to get to the heart of the subject. I do think it’s critical for anyone contemplating a transition in their life to give some thought to long as well as short term goals. So many people tend to give things the “I’ll give it a try and see how it goes” approach without ever taking the time to consider if what they’re doing aligns with their values or how it fits into what they really want out of life. Always good to have someone experienced such as yourself to lend an experienced ear.

    • says

Hello Marty, HEHE Well my friend all of this was learned by trial and error!! I have spent a lot of long nights sitting here just staring at this darn computer because I didn’t have a gameplan written out before me to to follow… I like to use the word “FOCUS” Yeppers once you have your daily goals written down you will have focus for the day.

Great way to be too.. Thanks for adding to the conversation here today Marty, always so nice to see you here.. Chery :))

  5. says

    Hi Chery,

Well done! I kind of follow the same formula. I do have my huge goal at the end of the rainbow. It is written down on my white board. But, there are so many steps along the way that I need to complete.

With that in mind, I do have a daily routine I follow to reach another “step” and I am so religious about this it has become a habit. I have to do A,B and C today. Sometimes I have to make room for other things that come up, but if I don’t accomplish my daily tasks, I can add it on tomorrow….if emergencies of life happen. Then I can do it without guilt.

It is so important to make strides every day!

Hello Donna, Of course we all have lives and yes this is so true, we have our list to go by but this doesn’t mean this is set in stone. If something comes up, yes we always have tomorrow HUH?

Thank you so much for mentioning this my friend! Chery :))

  6. says

Having goals and being goal oriented is VERY important with any kind of business, especially when getting started for the first time online. It can be soooo overwhelming but if we would apply what you said in this article it should help a lot!

    • says

Hello Kyle, Yikes not can be “”IT IS VERY OVERWELMING”” There is just so much information on the internet today that this alone can make you fail it you are not careful HUH?

Thank you for your comment and your visit my friend ! I do appreciate it.. Chery :))

  7. says

    Hi Chery,

Well said my friend and this is the greatest advise ever to treat our business as a business and not a hobby.

Setting long-term goals and short-term goals are necessary to move a business forward. Making a daily to-do-list I find it very helpful and keeps me accountable and at the end of the day, I will have that sense of achievement.

Thanks Chery for sharing!! Enjoy the rest of your week.

    Be Blessed,

    Neamat

  8. says

    Hi Chery,

I used to waste time like that a lot. And not just in business but life in general. Its amazing how easily you can get caught up in those kinds of things

Having clear goals is very helpful. And writing them down is great because it takes the stress of trying to remember them off of you.

That’s one of the reasons why I jot down a to-do list at the end of the day for things I need to do next. In the morning, its right there and I can determine which have the highest priority for the day.

Hello And Welcome to my blog Lea, I love your comment my friend! I do agree it is so nice to wake up and have that focus for the day HUH? I did try doing this at night a few times but then found that taking this step in the morning just felt better for me.. I guess it really doesn’t matter when you take the time to do, just as long as you do…

So happy to have you here, thanks for adding to the conversation and I do hope to see more of you here.. Chery :))

    Hi Chery

Today first of all let me tell you a big secret about you which I doubt you still don’t know. The secret is you are awesome. Believe me I don’t want you to be flattered it’s a fact. Yes it’s a fact because of the power of your ideas as you come up everytime with a brilliant idea that shows you never face any writer block and hope you will never in future also.

While reading the post I was just thinking you will enumerate a lengthy list of why people fail to earn money with their blog. But instead of igniting the frustration of those who yet to earn money you offered a wonderful solution of their problem of not making money to resolve it and start earning soon.

Thanks a lot for sharing this very profitable post.

Have a great weekend ahead Chery.

    Hi Chery,

I love reading your posts because you put so much more of your heart and excitement into them now. I believe, No, I know that almost everyone coming online to work has been through pretty much the same and some still struggle until they find that person or group to work with. Working with others with the same mind-set makes it so more enjoyable and doable.

Hello Monna, I do agree my friend, I know that by joining you girls every Tues has really helped to get me focused on taking action. I do think we all need to have someone to run things by, I guess it just helps to keep us accountable HUH?

Thanks for your awesome comment my friend, I just love it.. Chery :))

  11. says

Amazing how easy it is to cross the line into other areas with this. As a writer, am I planning, setting goals, and taking consistent daily action on them? Or am I treating it like a hobby, wasting time on Facebook, downloading this ebook and buying that course and then not using them?

For that matter, this is great advice in ANY area of our lives where we need to get something accomplished. Thanks for the great tips!

    • says

Hello Willena, Very true my friend, if you want to get something accomplished you need to have a game plan, then just get focused and getter done HUH? Thanks for sharing, always nice to see you my friend.. Chery :))

    Hey Chery ..
Love visiting your blog because you are so upbeat… and I bet you make an AWESOME team Leader! Having goals and then acting on them is important – the action is MOST important. You can write your goals down, but if you don’t act on them .. nothing will happen … great encouragement my friend :-)

    • says

Hello Lesly, Oh yeh you can write things down all you want but if you don’t take action NOPE-Nothing is going to happen. It is up to you and you alone to make things happen in your business as well in life! Thank You for sharing and for your kind words. Always a joy to see you here… Chery :))

Nice and extremely honest post Chery1

it’s amazing how many say they want some consistent bankable results,
yet when the time comes to put some consistent effort into what it takes, they’re nowhere to be
    found!LOL!

If only they could figure out a way to monetize all of their
socializing time on Facebook!LOL! Thanks so much for sharing!

  14. says

    Cherry, well done!

Being consistent and follow through. That is what keeps us moving forward and remaining focused on execution of daily activities. Only when we take the effort to write things done. Is when the magic happens. We begin to see it each day and making adjustments alone our growth.

You live what you speak. I love that about you Chery. Leading by example is what motivates those who are on the same path as yourself.

Thank you for keeping us grounded in the right way to get this done. Let us pray all who read this article. Learn that laying like a business by only activities one would have with a hobby. Can not begin a real structure to work from home.

  15. says

Hi Chery. You know that I know what you’re talking about, huh? What have we known each other – 2 years? It isn’t as easy as they make it out to be, but it takes a lot of consistent work and long term dedication to build a business. We’ve had a lot of false starts and things that haven’t panned out. But I look at it experience as I keep building my business.

I believe that most people could do it if they had the grit to keep going.

I’m delighted that you are continuing forward and building success along the way. Very inspiring post.

    All the best,
    Leslie.

    Hi Chery,

Glad I could found your blog from your comment on Adrienne’s blog. Nice to meet you. :)

I was caught by one thing, that your initial motivation in starting an online business. Yes, more or less, I also have the same motivation with you. Seeing the number of job applicants in search of work, so I thought to be able to start something that can be done at home and I can make money for my life, especially I can keep an eye on my parents when they get older.

I agree with you. We should set a goal to be achieved. By doing so, what should we do to be more clear.

Thanks for sharing your experience with us, Chery.
    I enjoyed reading this article.
    Have a great week! :)

    Chery,
A great post and I see an awful lot of comments so it seems you have hit a nerve. This online world is a tricky place. So much is appealing. There really are so many ways to create income but we have to focus on one way and keep doing that until we succeed. What happens to most of us is that we start in one direction and then suddenly see something else that could be lucrative and we start on that. And then something else appears. We listen to different coaches, different methods, different platforms. One person cannot do it all, certainly not without a lot of assistance. So finally, after lots of chasing after an elusive success, we have to set goals, take small steps to achieve those goals and continue following a path that works for us.
I have a sense that you have finally found your path and are starting to profit from it.

    ‘Warmly,

    Dr. Erica

I would get started with this NEW AWESOME BUSINESS, I would get Excited, then something else would come along and OH YEH YET ANOTHER AWESOME BUSINESS!! Then again and again and again!I cannot even count how many times I have started over again..

But this time I got focused and I did not look at another business, I finally actually set some goals, got focused, took massive action and things started to happen. So Yes it does look like I have finally found my path.

Thanks my friend, always so nice to see you here.. Chery :))

  18. says

    Hi Chery,

You are absolutely right here. In today’s age of cut throat competition, there is no chance that you can make money not taking the job seriously.

Personally this is one thing that annoys me the most: lack of sincerity. While it may not be intentional, but if you want to make good money from your online business, there is absolutely no place for taking things slow.

Also taking on goals on day to day basis is a great solution for the beginners.

Thanks for all the great advises. Have a wonderful week.

  19. says

Starting an online business is not as simple as it may sound! You need to dedicate time, determination and be prepared for setbacks, that is the only way to learn. Great post.

Building an online business and focusing on how you are going to attain your goals is hard work. Writing down those goals on a weekly basis as I plan for the week is key.
Each morning I will add my 3 goals for the day and see what focus this brings.
    Thanks Chery
